Angelica Tombs

Having travelled to numerous countries for concert tours as well as being multilingual, Angelica Tombs stands out for her versatility and luscious sound as a horn player.
Initially winning the Concerto Competition of the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2012 with the Richard Strauss Horn Concerto, she went on to study in Germany with Johannes Dengler, Casey Rippon, and Professor Mahir Kalmik with whom she studied at the Robert Schumann Hoschschule für Musik Düsseldorf, unable to complete her diploma due to the pandemic.
During that time, she took part in countless masterclasses and concerts, playing all over Germany but especially in Munich as a freelance horn player. She has equally taken part in many CD recordings, one of which will be coming out in June 2021, which is the C/O Orchestra Berlin under the Swedish BIS label. In this recording, Angelica’s vast experience in chamber music is evident.
She recently won the Grand Prix (brass) at the International Music Competition Opus 2021 of Kraków, Poland as well as the Second Prize of the Concerto Competition at the International Busan Maru Competition of South Korea in 2021.
She has received several grants and bursaries, more recently one from the Canadian Arts Council and is currently finishing her master’s degree in Music at the Université de Montréal with Louis-Philippe Marsolais, with whom she studied her bachelor’s degree at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
Since April 2022, Angelica Tombs is now a musician of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
